What is this?

Overview

Join the K12 Lab at the d.school’s first-ever K12 Futures Fest on Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 5:30–8:00 PM and Friday, January 17 from 8:00AM–5:00PM at the Stanford d.school.

This free learning fest will showcase the incredible work of our K-12 community, highlight stories of design, allow guests to experience some of our promising new prototypes, and connect us as a community on how to shape and design the future of learning together.

In the past year, we've led over 20 trainings in K-12 schools, had 800 principals as fellows, taught seven classes at the Stanford d.school, and developed four new experiments. Come and learn about them all at this event!

What will you do at this event?

Thursday is a celebration of learning and is open to anyone who is eager to learn about the new work of the K12 Lab. Participants will get a snapshot into the Lab’s new prototypes that work on reimagining assessment, emerging technology, how people learn, and school safety, and connect with a slice of our ever-growing community of education designers. Get ready to connect, feel inspired, and celebrate the next generation of education design work.

Friday will be an immersive learning experience for educators who are actively doing design work in the world. This is not an introduction to design, but an opportunity to learn about and test new prototypes that address real challenges educators and students are facing in schools. In-depth design sessions will help educators hone their design skills and learn new ways to share design experiences with others. And like all d.school events, we have a few surprises in store.

Space is limited.

What is this about?

The d.school’s K12 Futures Fest is about connecting our network of super engaged, thoughtful, and innovative educators, showcasing the work teachers and school leaders in our community have done, and checking out some of the new K-12-focused prototypes our team has been working on.

Who is this for?

Anyone who is working in or supporting K-12 education! Teachers, school leaders, administrators, instructional coaches, district admin - come one, come all!

Thursday is designed for a wide audience of people who are interested in shaping the future of K-12 education

Friday is an immersive learning experience for educators who are actively doing design work in the world.

What’s the cost?

There is no fee for attendees. We will cover all materials, food, festival gear, etc. You just need to cover your travel costs!

Where should I stay?

We have a room block at the Stanford Cardinal Inn, and we also recommend checking out nearby Airbnbs.

What should I bring?

Yourself, and a refillable water bottle. We will provide all of the materials and resources you need, and will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the K12 Futures Fest. Please be sure to indicate on the registration form if you have any dietary restrictions.

Why is the K12 Lab doing this?

We love our community, and we love finding ways to bring them together. The K12 Futures Fest is a chance for us to celebrate the best work educators in our network have done over the years and share some new stuff we’re working on. This is going to be two days of celebration, learning and fun - but you will walk away with some concrete resources, tools, and curriculum you can use in your own work.

How do I claim my spot?
