Pathways within Design
The two-year MS Design degree combines the d.school's Design Core curriculum with cross-campus electives, emphasizing applied design through real-world projects. Students learn to prototype across mediums, address human and planetary needs, and transform ambiguous challenges into tangible solutions.
What will you stand on? Core design classes strengthen the foundation of your design practice. Through hands-on coursework, students develop both technical skills and a unique design perspective.
How will you build? At the graduate level, students develop advanced skills in existing design methods or expand their repertoire with new approaches.
Where will you apply design? Graduate students craft individualized domain expertise by working closely with advisors to select focus areas aligned with their interests.
What will you create? The Capstone Project represents a year-long deep dive into a complex design challenge, where students apply their specialized skills and methodologies to create meaningful impact.
In the Loft, there is no “program” in design, but rather an open space for it. The Loft is the studio and the home base for our graduate students, who we lovingly refer to as our Loftees.
