If you've been through a d.school program, you've experienced what it feels like when an experience is intentionally designed.
When the right activities, conversations, artifacts, and moments come together, we can unlock new thinking and move people toward action. Many of us leave the d.school wanting to create those kinds of experiences ourselves.
Whether you're planning a team retreat, strategy session, leadership offsite, community convening, donor gathering, or workshop, some of the most important work we do happens when people come together around complexity. Those moments can create alignment, trust, momentum, and shared purpose, or they can leave people talking past one another and returning to business as usual. The difference is rarely the agenda. It's how the experience is designed.
This fall, we're piloting a new 2-day d.school experience focused on Designing for Impact: The Hidden Architecture of Experiences that Change How People Think and Act
Drawing on methods, the d.school has developed over decades of bringing people together to tackle complex challenges, we'll explore how to intentionally design experiences that shift how people think, feel, connect, and ultimately act. Together, we'll explore questions like:
- How do you design the emotional, informational, and experiential arc of a gathering?
- How do you create moments that build trust, unlock creativity, and generate alignment?
- How do you move a group from ambiguity toward shared action?
- How do you adapt d.school principles to your own context and leadership challenges?
Every participant will bring a real event or convening they are currently planning and spend the workshop applying the methods directly to that challenge. You'll leave not only with new frameworks, but with a concrete design you can use in your own work.
Because we’re seeking people who are excited to experiment, provide feedback, and help us learn what works we are reaching out to a shortlist of program alumni. After the workshop, we'll ask participants to share how they applied the methods in practice so we can build a collection of stories that will shape future iterations of the program.
To keep the experience highly interactive, participation is limited to ~20 people. We ask those interested to complete this interest form.
And because this is a beta, we're asking participants to simply cover the program’s overhead costs ($495) rather than pay the standard professional education fee for in-person programs.
The program will begin at 10am on Monday, December 7th and conclude at 5pm on Tuesday, December 8th.
