Just when we thought nothing could compare to our favorite tools for creative expression along came Grace Hawthorne. Entrepreneur, artist, author and educator, Grace is an Adjunct Professor at the d.school and Founder/CEO of Paper Punk, the addictive and award winning creativity toy that was dubbed ”the love child of Lego and origami”. Author of Make Possibilities Happen, part of the d.school book guide collection.


At the d.school, Grace teaches courses on creativity, failure, and the nebulous space between abstract-to-concrete while also leading a groundbreaking research project on creative capacity building covered by Scientific America and Wired magazine. She also produced the d.school’s first cult classic book, Make Space (Wiley).


She is the co-founder of ReadyMade, the groundbreaking design magazine that ignited the maker movement, and co-author of the critically acclaimed book, ReadyMade: How to Make Almost Everything (Crown/Potter).


Prior to ReadyMade, Grace was a creative producer and business strategist in Hollywood for studios, talent agencies and privately held entertainment properties. Her artwork has been exhibited in several national museums including the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum Triennial. She graduated cum laude in Art/Visual Communication from UC Berkeley and also holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA and an MFA from the UCLA School of Film and Television.


Grace believes anything is possible and wants everyone to make cool things with their hands.
