Overview
How do we make space for Black and Brown genius and creativity? In this class you will explore how to use our collective talents to build spaces (community, academic, and corporate) that are for us, by us.
How do we make space for Black and Brown genius and creativity? By occupying one within institutions where we’ve been invited but are still underrepresented.
In this course, your attendance will be alongside Black and Brown community members that live, work, and play outside of the Stanford University experience.
Each week, you’ll be led in a series of participatory lectures and active provocations by Black and Brown creative misfits, leaders, and voices in photography, design, music, activism, tech, education, and entrepreneurship. They’ll share their work and passions, and insights on how they’ve navigated, created, and advocated for the inclusion of Black and Brown voices and spaces within the halls of power.
Each class, they’ll challenge you with a course of action aligned towards creating space for us, by us. At the end of the 10-week course, you’ll be armed with the frame of mind, confidence, community, and tools needed in order to continue doing so.
If you want to be part of a movement towards building access, equity, and space for the marginalized within ivory towers, you’ve come to the right place. Join us.
*Students of all backgrounds are welcome, and Black and Brown students are highly encouraged to apply. The class will consist of Stanford students as well as underrepresented members of the community and non-traditional students.
