d.school Student Workers 2024-2025

Student workers make the d.school awesome! The d.school strives to be an accessible, enjoyable, useful, and engaging experience for all our students and visitors, and our student workers are critical to our success. We have a variety of positions available for the 2024-2025 school year. If interested, please fill out an application via the link below by Friday June, 21, 2024, 5pm Pacific Time. Our team will reach out to you about virtual interviews held during the month of July. We will update you with final results before early September. 

Studio Assistant

The d.school Environments Team is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented early riser to help us maintain the resources and tools in the d.school’s classrooms and studio spaces and create engaging, intuitive spaces that are user-friendly and promote collective care and belonging. 5 hours per week—3 hours on a set schedule of maintenance M/W/F 8AM-9AM plus 2 hours additional project work during a time agreed on with the Environments Manager.

Duties: 

  • Organize and inventory d.school supplies and resources in the Classrooms, Bay Studio, and Warehouse on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 8-9AM. 

  • Make regular reports to the Environments Manager on the status of supplies and condition of d.school facilities. 

  • Assist with inventory and maintenance of d.school furniture.

  • Maintain reset plans and signage for Building 550. 

  • Help design and implement new types of prototyping and studio spaces in the d.school.


Tour Guide 

The d.school Community Team is looking for ambassadors for Design! Using the d.school’s tour materials and reservation system, d.school tour guides  lead immersive tour experiences for prospective students, alumni, d.school partners and funders, and other interested folks. Tours are given on a weekly basis and are reservation-only. Reservations are taken via a link on our website.  As a part of your role as tour guide, you will become familiar with the details of the d.school spaces, the undergraduate and graduate programs in Design, and the d.school’s professional learning offerings, publications and other resources. This knowledge, in addition to your own unique personal experience with Design at Stanford,  will equip you to answer questions and be an ambassador for the d.school and the Design programs. 5 hours per week. You will work directly with the d.school Community Team. 

Duties:

  • Training and tour practice with the d.school tours source materials and staff.

  • Lead at least one reservation-based tour per week, generally held on Friday afternoons. With setup and questions, this is a two-hour commitment. 

  • Lead ad-hoc tours for VIP groups as needed (up to 3 hours per week) 

  • Document visitor engagement and refer significant  inquiries to the appropriate staff members.


UG Design Peer Advisor

Design is looking for knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and motivated undergraduates to be student leaders in our major. The Peer Advisors anchor our academic advising experience by often being the first person students go to for trusted guidance. Many faculty, students, and academic staff look to Peer Advisors for better understanding the student experience and helping shape the future of the Design major. Work will not exceed 8 hours a week. Emerging BS Design Juniors and Seniors are encouraged to apply. You will work directly with the d.school Student Services Officer (SSO).

Duties: 

  • Be an expert on Design major processes, resources, and requirements.

  • Advise declared and prospective students by offering weekly in-person office hours. 

  • Review filled out program sheets by students for accuracy and offering advice.

  • Lead advising projects and initiatives (with guidance by the SSO as needed).

  • Support students at different stages of their degree progress.

  • Collaborate with Faculty Advisors, academic staff, and on occasion d.school staff.

  • Meet regularly as a Peer Advising team for updates, planning, and program discussions.

  • Participate in major communication efforts when needed.

  • Collaborate with student Community Leads on occasion for facilitating major events.

  • Recommend program improvements by sharing what you learn from fellow Design students.


UG Design Community Lead

The d.school Student Experience team is looking for enthusiastic students in the BS Design major to help foster community across the major and continue annual traditions. The Undergraduate Community Leads assist in the planning of d.school events including Back to School Night, Halloween Pumpkin Carve, Valentine’s Mix + Make, and Totes + Boba Night! Designing graphics for event marketing materials will be part of the role. Leads also act as welcome ambassadors for the d.school by offering welcome tours to newly declared BS Design students weekly. Work will be 5-8 hours per week. You will work directly with the d.school Student Experience Lead for the degree programs. 

*BS Design students across all levels are encouraged to apply: emerging Juniors and Seniors. Seeking students skilled in graphic design interested in designing marketing materials. 

Duties: 

  • Plan, advertise and execute d.school community building events.

  • Design graphics for various d.school event marketing. 

  • Hold weekly tours for newly declared BS Design students.

  • Organize and stock the BS Design “Welcome Wagon” with Design swag.

  • Offer a student perspective of the Design major experience for incoming design students.

  • Bring forth new ideas around ways to engage BS Design students across academic domains and the d.school.
