Overview
Reach for the Upside is a “design sprint” initiative funded by Genentech and the Genentech Foundation to help Northern California public school districts and their community partners navigate the constraints of the COVID-19 era and identify opportunities to advance student-centered learning, equity, and the well-being of students, teachers, and families in this time.
Through a two-month series of design workshops and coaching sessions, districts and their community partners will workshop innovative ideas which they will receive funding and coaching support to try in their communities. The initiative is intended to be a “light lift,” with minimal requirements of participants and maximum support from Genentech and the d.school.

What is the impact of the Reach for the Upside Initiative?
Reach for the Upside will potentially affect:
442,000 underserved students as well as their teachers, families, and communities
296,000 students are BIPOC (2/3rds)
In 31 school districts in 16 Northern California counties
How can I see what is generated from the design sprints?
One of the initiative’s core goals is to openly share ideas that are generated. We will be launching a micro-site to share as much as we can from the initiative.
