What will I learn?

Overview

Add playful and fresh methods to your personal design toolbox.

Spend the day designing YOUR design work. Come up with new methods through the playful exploration of tarot to uncover inspiration and deeper personal understanding.

For centuries, tarot has been used as a tool to navigate life and the unknown. It has offered individuals – from queens to your 1970’s mom – and fashion designers – such as Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan – a means to reflect and find clarity, especially when designing for personal change.

Today, the medium of tarot has been reimagined into countless decks and guides that explore everything from IDEO’s Method Deck to Global Leadership Associate’s Transformation Cards.

And, they’re hot! National sales have grown to a 50-year high. In 2017, there were more the 88 tarot card projects on Kickstarter.

The teaching team is part of this charge, leading an initiative to develop an innovation, design, and transformation deck developed in part through play with HATCH, an annual gathering of 150 international innovators, and the National Science Foundation community.

In this pop-out, you will use tarot as a vessel for your own exploration into design, self and purpose, as well as transformative change. Diving into design thinking practices through the lens of tarot and rapid prototyping, you will gain new ways to empathize with end users and yourself, especially in ambiguous and emergent spaces, all while honing your personal design toolkit.

And, you will cook-up your own mini deck, which just might have you running to Kickstarter.
