Overview

Moving through and occupying uncomfortable spaces as design leaders

As designers of marginalized identities - the process, terminology and title of "designer" comes with a set of challenges. We invite you to join us and fellow designers in stepping into a 'brave space' and exploring how we own our experiences and raise our voices within an ever-evolving and complex world.

This course is meant to help support a wide range of people who have prior experience navigating systemic oppression based on race, ethnicity, or nationality. Participants will learn how to use a design methodology to help them shape a strong narrative based on their identity, and leverage their experiential knowledge to help push for equity-centered design in their work. Participants will also build strategies for self care, and community building. This pop-out will be highly interactive, and amplified by participants' collective knowledge and expertise. Participants can expect a series of experiential activities including story sharing, dance, and role playing to help them build actionable strategies for improving their equity work and creating liberatory spaces in their work environments.
