    Welcome to the dschool tech wiki

    Here are Dell printer drivers for the student print shop and the prototyping room printers. Download and install the drivers for your computer and then follow the instructions below to add printers.

    MAC OSX driver:
    Download file "Dell_5110cn_Installer.dmg"

    Windows 32bit:
    Download file "DELL_COLOR-LASER-5110CN_A06_R244210.exe"

    Windows 64bit:
    Download file "DELL_COLOR-LASER-5110CN_A06_R244513.exe"


    Printing

    There are 3 printing areas at the dschool; the first floor print shop for teaching teams, faculty and staff, the second floor student print shop for students and the second floor digital prototyping room. Teaching teams, faculty and staff are encouraged to print to the Canon color printer/copier/scanner located in the first floor copy room. There are also separate color and black & white printers and a fax machine in the copy room as well. The second floor student copy area includes a multifunction fax,scan, print, copy machine and a high speed color printer.

    Printing Instructions for Mac Users

    Canon copier/printer/scanner:

    Download the canon printer driver:

    Use Safari, not Firefox and go to http://d-copier web page. Select the “Downloads” tab and click on the “Printer Files (US) - 9878 KB” file listed under the Mac OSX list. Choose to save to disk if given the option and the download of the driver file should begin. After downloading, open the file (OSX.dmg) open the Printer Drivers folder and run the OSX Installer to load the drivers. Close all windows after the installer completes.

    Note: if you use FFox instead of Safari to download the OSX installer, it may append an extra “.bin” extension to the file and you will need to rename the file from osx.dmg.bin to osx.dmg in order to open it.

    Next, go to System Preferences/Print and Fax/Printing, make sure the IP Printer tab is selected at the top of the Printer Browser window, click on the + to add a printer, Protocol = Line Printer Daemon – LPD, Address = d-copier, leave Queue blank, Name= “dschool canon copier”, location=dschool, In the “Print Using” dropdown menu choose Canon, scroll down to Canon iR C2880-J1 PS Ver1.0 and click “Add”. On the Installable Options page, click the down arrow next to the Sorter and Stapler and choose “Finisher Z-1”, leave the other options not installed and click continue.

    HP Laserjet 2420 (Black & White)

    Go to System Preferences/Print and Fax/Printing, click on the + to add a printer, click on IP Printer, Protocol = HP Jet Direct – Socket, Address = d-bw, Name= “dschool b&w printer”, click “Add”.

    HP Color Laserjet 3700

    Go to System Preferences/Print and Fax/Printing, click on the + to add a printer, click on IP Printer, Protocol = HP Jet Direct – Socket, Address = d-color and name of “dschool color printer” and you should be all set.

    Dell color printers:

    Download the drivers: go to http://dschool.stanford.edu/printers

    Open the Mac OSX folder and click on the driver file to download it to your machine.
    Run the file to install the drivers.

    Dell 5110cn Color Laserjet in the second floor Student Print Shop

    Go to System Preferences/Print and Fax/Printing, click on the + to add a printer, click on IP Printer, Protocol = Line Printer Daemon – LPD, Address = d-dell1, leave Queue blank, and name of “dschool Dell color 524A”, in the Print Using window click the down arrow, Select Printer Software, type in Dell in the search box, select the Dell 5110cn driver, click add, select Memory Capacity and set to 1152MB, click continue and you should be all set.

    Dell 5110cn Color Laserjet in the second floor Digital Prototyping Room

    Go to System Preferences/Print and Fax/Printing, click on the + to add a printer, click on IP Printer, Protocol = Line Printer Daemon – LPD, Address = d-dell2 and name of “dschool Dell color proto rm”, click the Print Using down arrow, Select Printer Software, type in Dell in the search box, select the Dell 5110cn driver, click add, select Memory Capacity and set to 1152MB, click continue and you should be all set.


    Printing Instructions for Windows Users

    Canon copier/printer/scanner:

    First you’ll need to download the canon printer driver.

    Make sure you are on the dschool wireless net “dnet”. (see instructions above)

    Open a browser and type d-copier which will bring you to the dschool Canon web page. Select the “Downloads” tab and click on the “Printer Files (US) - 5724 KB” file listed under the Windows list. Choose to save to disk if given the option and the download of the driver file should begin. Open the downloaded file and extract it’s contents to a folder of your choice. Note what folder or location the drivers are downloaded to.

    Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes, click Add A Printer, next, and select “local printer attached to this computer. Make sure that the “automatically detect and install my plug and play printer” is unchecked. Click “Create a new port”, click the down arrow and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click next. In the printer name or IP Address type: d-copier, leave the port name with the default and click Next and then Finish. In the next window, click the “Have Disk” button, and browse to the folder that you downloaded the drivers to and click ok. This should load the Canon drivers and a list of printer models to choose from. Select Canon in the Manufacturer list and Canon ir2880 V1.0 PS from the Printers drop down list and click Next. Name the printer “dschool canon copier” and click next, print a test page to confirm that it is working and click finish.

    HP Laserjet 2420 (Black & White)

    Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes, click Add A Printer, next, and select “local printer attached to this computer. Make sure that the “automatically detect and install my plug and play printer” is unchecked. Click “Create a new port”, click the down arrow and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click next. In the printer name or IP Address type: d-bw, leave the port name with the default and click Next and then Finish. In the next window, click the “Windows Update” button, wait for it to get the list of printers and then select HP in the Manufacturer list and HP Laserjet 2420 PS from the Printers list and click Next. Name the printer “dschool b&w printer” and click next, don’t print a test page and click finish.

    HP Color Laserjet 3700

    Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes, click Add A Printer, next, and select “local printer attached to this computer. Make sure that the “automatically detect and install my plug and play printer” is unchecked. Click “Create a new port”, click the down arrow and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click next. In the printer name or IP Address type: d-color, leave the port name with the default and click Next and then Finish. In the next window, click the “Windows Update” button, wait for it to get the list of printers and then select HP in the Manufacturer list and HP Color Laserjet 3700 PS, name it “dschool color printer” and you should be all set.


    Dell color printers:

    Download the drivers: go to http://dschoolserver.stanford.edu/printers
    Open the windows folder and then the folder that matches your operating system - Windows 32bit or Windows 64bit and click on the driver file to download it to your machine.
    Run the file to install the drivers and note which folder the drivers are installed into.

    Dell 5110cn Color Laserjet in the Student Print Shop

    Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes, click Add A Printer, next, and select “local printer attached to this computer. Make sure that the “automatically detect and install my plug and play printer” is unchecked. Click “Create a new port”, click the down arrow and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click next. In the printer name or IP Address type: d-dell1, leave the port name with the default and click Next, accept the default and then Finish. In the next window, click the “Select Printer Driver” button, scroll down to search for Dell Inc. in the Manufacturer list and the Dell Color Laser 5110cn PCL6 printer and click next. If you don’t see Dell in the manufacturer list you’ll need to click the Have Disk button and browse to the folder where the drivers were installed, select the driver file, click OK and next. Name the printer “dschool Dell color 524A”, click next, next, select no, next and finish and you should be all set.

    Dell 5110cn Color Laserjet in Digital Prototyping Room

    Go to Start/Settings/Printers and Faxes, click Add A Printer, next, and select “local printer attached to this computer. Make sure that the “automatically detect and install my plug and play printer” is unchecked. Click “Create a new port”, click the down arrow and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click next. In the printer name or IP Address type: d-dell2, leave the port name with the default and click Next, accept the default and then Finish. In the next window, click the “Select Printer Driver” button, scroll down to search for Dell Inc. in the Manufacturer list and the Dell Color Laser 5110cn PCL6 printer and click next. If you don’t see Dell in the manufacturer list you’ll need to click the Have Disk button and browse to the folder where the drivers were installed, select the driver file, click OK and next. Name the printer “dschool Dell color proto rm”, click next, next, select no, next and finish and you should be all set.
