The d.school is thrilled to announce that Susie Wise will be rejoining us to lead the next chapter of our efforts in K12 education. (A side note: we like call her “Dr. Wise,” because she is…!)
Susie has been a creative force in the d.school since its earliest days. From helping to design & teach one of the earliest classes in advanced Empathy methods, to spearheading our partnership with the Nueva School to help launch their innovation lab, to pioneering early ideas about publishing teaching resources, Susie’s impact has spanned a wide range.
Since she was last at the d.school in 2008-2010, Susie completed her PHD in Learning Sciences and Technology Design, co-founded a school in Oakland called Urban Montessori, and worked as a design strategist and innovation coach at Intuit.
Susie will be starting in late October, and is planning a series of new activities and experiments to chart the course of the Lab and K12 Network’s future. Please check back here for updates in the future!

Hi Susie,
Last year all of us at Beaver worked with IDEO to find ways to use Design Thinking in our classrooms to develop essential skills such as creative & innovative problem solving, collaboration, visual communication, empathy, etc. To date we are finding success in all grades and all disciplines. We are grades 6-12 and I think what makes us somewhat unique is that we see Design Thinking as a valuable strategy for learning in the high school. It seems that most schools tend to limit DT to grades K-8. I wonder if you could see ways Beaver could work with you as you “relaunch” your work at the d school. Would love to talk.
Best,
Peter Hutton, Head of School
