Kathryn hails from a small farm in rural Nebraska. She came to Stanford as an undergrad and has bled Cardinal red ever since. She fell in love with the d.school while completing her PhD in Communication at Stanford. Kathryn’s dissertation research focused on the psychology of avatars, and she enjoys learning how diverse groups of people (both virtual and physical!) work together.
In addition to her work coaching and teaching at the d.school, Kathryn loves helping others explore and practice design thinking. She supports executives in their efforts to bring design thinking and a culture of innovation to their organizations; she enjoys designing and running workshops for various organizations in the public and private sector.
When Kathryn’s not at the d.school, she loves spending time with her husband and boxer puppy on the coasts and ridges of California. She’s a Nebraska Cornhusker and Stanford Cardinal fan and has recently trained for a few half marathons in San Francisco. There’s also an old lady inside of her who really loves to knit and crochet.
